Here are 5+ things that made me happy this week.
New Year’s Eve
I love New Year’s Eve. I kind of think of it as my birthday since my birthday is on January 9. Our NYE has evolved over the years. We used to go see a comedy show. Once we saw Don Rickles who was so unbelievably funny and so fast with his. jokes that it was hard to keep up with him. A few times we saw Louie Anderson. Of course this was before I started doing standup comedy.
For many years now we’ve had a party. It’s a fun night of playing games and catching up on life.
I run a weekly comedy workshop and open mic. The beginning of the year always means people coming out to conquer their fears and/or fulfill their resolutions. It’s fun to see comics just starting out. They have so much hope and a little fear.
Oh man do I love Portillo’s! We visited one in Wisconsin on our way to Chicago last year and since then I’ve been hooked. Since then one has opened in Woodbury. And while it’s kind of a hike from our house I gladly make the trip. Their Chicago Dog, which they just refer to as a hotdog is the best. They have lots of other great things but I’m happy with a hotdog every time.
Our LG microwave has been a pain in the butt for the last several years. The keypad is on the bottom and takes on moisture causing the keypad to stop working even though we use the fan to prevent moisture from getting into the keypad. So annoying. We’ve replaced the keypads a few times over the years. When it stopped working a few months ago we couldn’t find a new keypad. After months of going without microwave we finally bit the bullet and bought a new one.
We bought a Bosch. It has a convection oven which I thought cooked food faster but in reality is just a mini oven. Still I love it. And I love having a microwave again.
So we got the car a couple weeks ago. But now that we have our official license plates it seems like a real car.
We traded our Ford Explorer in for a Subaru Outback. I loved the Explorer. It was hard to let it go. But I love the Outback. It has so many fancy features. All I really wanted in a car is heated seats, a remote starter, and a moon roof. Other than that I don’t car about the make, model or color. But the Outback has it all – a navigation system, 9 speaker stereo, leather seats, backup camera and a bunch more stuff that I haven’t figured out yet.
